Located in western New York, Chautauqua Lake is an incredible fishery. Whether it's walleye, muskellunge, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, or a host of other panfish, Chautauqua Lake is a fisherman's dream!

Located at 1306 feet above sea level, Chautauqua Lake is one of the highest navigable waterways in North America. At 17.5 miles long and having over 13.000 acres of surface area, the lake is divided into two nearly equal size basins. The northern basin is deeper, with average depth of 25 feet and a maximum depth of 75 feet. The southern basin is much shallower, with an average depth of 11 feet and maximum depth at 19 feet.

New York State Non-Resident fishing licenses cost $70 for the year, $35 for 7 days, or $15 for one day. To encourage fishing New York waterways, the last weekend in June are free fishing days for the state of New York and no license is required for this weekend. The free fishing days for 2010 are June 26-27.

Chautauqua Lake is truly a fisherman's paradise, but is also quite a vacation hot spot.
